The COVID-19 pandemic poses unprecedented challenges for governments and societies around the world. Not only does the COVID-19 epidemic pose a direct threat to everyone's health, but it also jeopardizing people's livelihoods and financial security. These threats, coupled with the social isolation and anxiety triggered by efforts to control the spread of disease, are affecting people’s mental and physical health. Many of us are struggling with abnormal levels of stress, fear, depression, and anxiety. The goal of Our COVID Story is to understand how COVID-related stress is affecting our cognition, economic behavior, and mental health.
By spending 5 minutes a day answering questions on the study app, you can help us find the puzzle pieces that will help us get through the COVID pandemic. Every time you share you provide a precious piece of the puzzle. If enough people share their experience, then scientists can connect all those puzzle pieces to reveal the big picture, and with it, new ways to cope with COVID and improve people’s lives. Together, we’ll find the causes and search for cures.

After signing up for the study, you will receive an initial payment of $10 via an electronic Amazon gift card. We will send you this electronic gift card using the email address you provide at the study sign up. In addition to your initial payment, at the end of each month of the study, you will be automatically entered into a raffle to receive a bonus payment. Winners will receive an (emailed) Amazon gift card that will range from $50-$300.
Although no personal information will be gathered, all the information obtained for this study will be stored in a highly secure computer database that only the study researchers can access. Once the study is complete, even your name and email address will be deleted from the database.
Only the study researchers will have access to your data, and only administrators have access to your email addresses. We will share data, but never your name or email addresses, with other researchers. Before sharing any of your data with them, we will be certain remove your name, email, and phone number to protect your privacy.
Participation in this study will be for 6-18 months. The duration of the study will be longer or shorter depending on the length of the pandemic. Once the study is complete, all of your identifying data will be deleted from the database. If you would like us to stop gathering your personal data, you may withdraw your consent at any time by sending us an email or by simply removing the app from your phone.
This is a not-for-profit initiative and your data will not be used by NYU or its affiliates for profit. The data you provide cannot be used for commercial purposes.
